 "A Place to Belong!"

Brief History of Reilly Road Presbyterian Church

On January 26, 1986, a handful of people gathered in the “Fireplace Room” of what is now the education building. These twenty odd folks had a mission in mind. The mission was to establish a Presbyterian Church on the west side of Fayetteville.

The first worship service in the new sanctuary was held on December 3, 1989. Dedication services were held on January 28, 1990, the fourth birthday of Reilly Road Presbyterian Church, USA.

In 1991 the Gulf War and Desert Storm took 21 of our finest, and most of their families, by transfers. The Rev. Dr. Clarence Thomas served the pulpit from October 1, 1998 until the congregation decided that Reilly Road Presbyterian Church, USA needed a full time pastor. On February 28, 1999, our current pastor, Rev. Rogers E. Randall, Jr. preached his first sermon as pastor of Reilly Road Presbyterian Church, USA.

General statistics for our congregation as reported to our denomination.  Click here  From this link you can look at several trends and statistics about our congregation.

 Connections:

Our church is a member congregation in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. The largest Presbyterian Denomination in the United States.  The Presbyterian Church U.S.A. has approximately 2.5 million members, 11,200 congregations and 21,000 ordained ministers. Presbyterians trace their history to the 16th century and the Protestant Reformation. Our heritage, and much of what we believe, began with the French lawyer John Calvin (1509-1564), whose writings crystallized much of the Reformed thinking that came before him.  For more about the PC(U.S.A.) please click here.

There are two regional governing bodies with whom we are connected in our Denomination.  These two bodies, our synod and our presbytery, help us to work in partnership with other Presbyterian congregations to carry our mission and ministry.

Our synod is Synod of the Mid-Atlantic (www.synatlantic.org) The synod is a large geographic area that contains 14 presbyteries.

Our presbytery is the Presbytery of Coastal Carolina (www.presbycc.org), the southern most presbytery in our synod. The Presbytery of Coastal Carolina includes the counties of Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Cumberland, Duplin, Harnett, Hoke, Jones, Lee, Moore, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland and portions of Lenoir, Wayne and Craven counties.  It has approximately 190 member churches.  These churches, working together through the presbytery, run two camp and conference centers in addition to sharing in many other mission endeavors.
